Be Like A Postage Stamp

The second semester has started and I can already smell the smoke of a fried brain... Eek! However, I seem to have a very positive feeling about the next half of the year. Having settled into varsity life and found my bearings and a routine (although I still haven’t adapted to waking up at 5:30am yet...), I think on one hand it will be easier than the first semester, yet still  throw out a few curve balls along the way.

I’ve already begun frantically organising my calendar with deadlines and so forth, and even begun my first project. For now I’m ahead with all my reading material, and hoping to keep it that way! It’s a whole lot easier when you know what your lecturers are talking about.
While everything sounds like a walk in the park, I realised its only still the beginning and things are about to start picking up in the next two to three weeks. Today I noticed the quote I stuck up under my mirror last year to motivate myself throughout Matric:

“Be like a postage stamp. Stick to it until you get there.” – Harvey Mackay,

and I remembered the powerful motivating source it was for my final school year. That is why I decided to share it with all of you. It may be just the words you need right now. I certainly did, as I realised that if I just keep sticking to my ways and stay motivated, I can make it through anything and accomplish any obstacle life drops in my path. No matter how long the essay, complex the assignment or difficult the test paper, I can do it (shouts from the audience: “yes we can!” *insert laughs here*).

That being your motivational post for the month, I wish you all the best in all your endeavours for the remainder of 2012. Be that postage stamp and you will get there!

All the best,

Much love and motivation,

Dedication... Balloons, Shooters, and Pink Cake.

26 March 2012

This post is long overdue. And I apologise for that.

Saturday, 10th of March I made my way to Pretoria to spend the day, night, and early morning with my best girl, Kendra. It was her 18th birthday, and a major party it was.  We hit the shops to stock up for the night and had a pretty chilled morning. The afternoon came around and her family began to arrive (I thought mine was rather large). We had an awesome braai with lots of laughter and fun. Blew out some candles, ate some cake,  and a shot or two.

By 10:30pm the family was on their way, and Kendra and I hit the make-up and dress-up. With sky-high heels, and sparkly jewels, we got into the car and headed for Ed’s Restaurant. At 12 midnight, I was honoured to buy my friend her first legal drink! Happy 18th Birthday, Sharky!!

Next we moved on to Hatfield Square, where we only arrived at around 1:30am. We danced and laughed and had a good time, before venturing off to the News Cafe at Menlyn Square. After driving around a little more, and realising that nowhere else was open, we decided to call it a night. Before going home we stopped in at McDonald’s. Dave was most disgusted that their milkshake machine was broken and they didn’t have any ice-cream.

We walked through the door at 3:30am and fell asleep on the couches at around 4am....

7am and the family are all awake. I guess, you could say that’s all the sleep we’d be getting! We celebrated with more cake for breakfast before venturing out to the mall. I bought Kendra a huge foil balloon with “18” on it and a whistle. Why a whistle, you ask? Well, I thought it would be fun. Every time I blew the whistle Kendra had to shout out : ”It’s my Birthday!” I must say it probably would have worked out a whole lot better if Kendra’s voice hadn’t died.

In the end it was one awesome weekend!

I promised Kendra that I would write her the longest Facebook wall post she’d ever seen. I’m sorry to say that I didn’t get online to fulfil that promise, so that is why I’m writing this. It sure is longer than a wall post and makes up for my lack of time.

To My Sharky:
Happy (belated) 18th Birthday!! I hope that this year will be one to remember (key word there is “remember”).  Life begins here, and I just know that you will make it truly epic! Good luck for all the hurdles that will come your way, your amazing strength will see you through. And if it’s not enough, I’m always there. You are the most special friend ever!

“Everything is funnier when you’re with your best friend” – I read this quote the other day and thought about you.
Love you millions!!
